At PeelPioneers, we’re not just stopping at a partnership – we’re breaking records too! We are thrilled to announce that our collaboration with Royal Steensma has reached an all-time high in orange peel cube production. It’s more than just numbers; it’s a shared dedication to reducing food waste and making sustainable choices.
Record-breaking Production
Our production lines have been working overtime, ensuring a steady supply of our zesty orange peel cubes to Steensma’s kitchen. We’ve hit a record production of 30 ton orange peel cubes in one week for Steensma. This achievement signifies our commitment to sustainability and making a positive impact on the environment. The heart of any great partnership is reliability and clear communication. Working closely with Steensma has been a seamless journey, and our collaboration has grown stronger because of it. It’s a testament to our shared values and goals – a partnership built on trust and mutual understanding.
Since 2018, our collaboration with Steensma has been driven by a commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (MVO). Together, we’ve saved 1 million container transport kilometers by using PeelPioneers’ orange peels instead of importing them from Italy, read more about it here. This shift not only reduces transportation emissions but also allows Steensma to process fresh peels instead of those preserved in salt and SO2, saving water and lowering the overall environmental impact. Recipe for the Future
The orange peel cubes are mainly used in bakery products, such as muffins, bread and chocolate. The recent upscaling of orange peel cube delivery has left a significant impact at Steensma. Rimmert de Jong, the CEO of Steensma says, “Due to the increasing volumes, we can now use entire batches in the confectionery, enhancing the quality of the end product. Additionally, in case of scarcity in Italy, we now have an alternative source, mitigating potential issues with raw material.”
Looking ahead, the collaboration could take even larger forms. There are ongoing tests with PeelPioneers’ citrus fiber, and De Jong expresses his appreciation, saying, “We value the collaboration with PeelPioneers enormously. The fresh peels project is one of our most beautiful sustainability projects, and it succeeds only when there is mutual willingness, which is the case!”
Together, PeelPioneers and Steensma are crafting a sweeter and more sustainable future, one peel at a time. We are proud to be part of a partnership that not only tastes great but also does great things for the planet. Read more about Royal Steensma here.
