Working together to combat food waste and promote sustainable innovation.
Almelo/Oldenburg, 12 June 2025 – Two companies with a shared vision for sustainability are joining forces. Dutch circular economy pioneers PeelPioneers and chemicals experts BÜFA Chemikalien are joining forces. As part of an exclusive distribution partnership, BÜFA Chemikalien will now market PeelPioneers’ innovative products in Germany and Austria. The agreement was signed at Vivochem, a BÜFA Chemikalien subsidiary, in Almelo, the Netherlands.
Functionality
meets responsibility
PeelPioneers
has a clear mission: To give orange peels a second life. Rather than throwing
them away, the peels are fully processed within 72 hours to create high-quality
ingredients such as fibres, oils and cubes. These ingredients are used in
products such as sauces, marinades, baked goods, meat and fish alternatives and
also to the cosmetic industry for skincare and mascara.
“With this
partnership, we are bringing a multi-award-winning product to the German and
Austrian markets that is impressive not only for its functionality, but also
for its significant contribution to the circular economy,” says Bas van
Wieringen, PeelPioneers’ co-founder and CEO.
Valuable
raw material instead of waste
“Our
products are the opposite of waste utilization, they set a new standard for the
use of natural resources. What we obtain from orange peel combines
functionality, naturalness and sustainability,” emphasises Tiemen van
Stempvoort, PeelPioneers’ Financial Director.
“We are delighted to
have found a partner in BÜFA who shares our vision and will inspire the German
and Austrian industries with our product solutions.”
The
exceptionally high oil and water-binding capacity of PeelPioneers’ orange
fibres is particularly noteworthy. They therefore offer a natural,
allergen-free alternative to conventional binders and open up new possibilities
for clean-label products in the food industry.
Circular
economy meets chemical expertise
“For us,
the partnership with PeelPioneers is a perfect fit,” says Laurens Muijs van de
Moer, BÜFA Chemikalien’s Managing Director. “The products are recognized internationally for
its impact and epitomises
everything we stand for: Innovation, sustainability, and the ability to turn
challenges into opportunities. We are proud to make this innovative,
sustainable product available to our customers, helping to create a
food-producing industry with less waste and more high-quality ingredients.’
In the
Netherlands alone, PeelPioneers processes around ten million kilograms of
orange peel every year, saving an estimated seven million kilograms of CO₂.
Thanks to intelligent logistics, such as collecting the peels via existing
delivery routes, no additional emissions are generated. This product line offers significant
added value to industrial partners seeking to advance their sustainability
strategies.

to marketing pure products, BÜFA Chemikalien also offers technical support in
